Overview
The Alberta Security Infrastructure Program (ASIP) provides grant funding to organizations serving communities at risk of hate or bias-motivated incidents. ASIP funds security assessments, security infrastructure improvements, training, equipment, and immediate security response measures.
Types of Grants
- Cost Recovery Grant: Reimbursement for expenses incurred after June 1, 2021
- Regular Grant: For security assessment, infrastructure and equipment purchases, and related training
ASIP Budget
- Grant funding will remain open based on the availability of funds
- Funding will end once the program’s budget is spent
Eligibility
ASIP applicants must be:
- A registered not-for-profit agency or charity in good standing
- Places of worship where a group gathers for religious acts (praise, meditation, etc.
- Provincially or territorially recognized private educational institutions, including primary and secondary schools serving diverse student bodies
- Schools linked to affiliated facilities serving identifiable groups
- Community centers where identifiable groups gather for social/cultural activities
- Cemeteries or burial facilities focused on identifiable groups
- Shelters serving identifiable groups
- Ceremonial facilities or monuments used by identifiable groups
- Not-for-profit storefronts serving identifiable groups
Not eligible for grants:
- Residential dwellings
- Daycares
- For-profit organizations
- Municipalities
- Police services
- Crown corporations
- Publicly funded institutions
- Individuals
- Properties under construction or development
What the Grants Are For
Applicants may apply for funding or cost reimbursement under one or more of the following categories:
Category A: Security Risk Assessment
- Up to $10,000 per organization
- Professional security risk assessment by a qualified service provider with verifiable credentials
Category B: Implementation of Security Plans
- B1: Security Planning, Infrastructure & Equipment Purchases – Up to $25,000
- Implementing recommendations from the security risk assessment, including facility security planning and the purchase/installation of security equipment
- B2: Education & Training – Up to $10,000

Training for staff and volunteers (e.g., Alberta basic security guard training, first aid, mental health awareness, conflict prevention, etc.)

Community education initiatives (e.g., upstander training, hate crime awareness, legal rights training, etc.)

Category C: Immediate Security Response
- Up to $10,000 for immediate, short-term security needs related to hate or bias-motivated incidents
- Eligible expenses include security personnel, facility repairs, graffiti removal, etc.

After You Apply
Grant Expansion for Eligible Schools
As of December 7, 2023, Alberta’s government has temporarily expanded the ASIP to include:
- Islamic and Jewish faith-based alternative schools
- Arabic bilingual programs
Eligible schools can apply for funding through December 31, 2025.
Eligible schools can apply for funding for:
- Physical patrolling: Up to $20,000
- Security assessments: Up to $10,000
- Security enhancements: Up to $25,000
- Costs incurred since October 7, 2023 related to these security activities.
